JAW FAMILY BRINGS STEVE REID FOUNDATION TO BERLIN

FreeSpirits_Anzeige_web-1.jpg

When:  Sunday, 13 Oct 2013, 3pm - 14 Oct, 4am //  Where: Prince Charles, Kreuzberg, Berlin

The Steve Reid Foundation is headed to Berlin for a very special event organised by JAW Family to raise money for the foundation. Some funds also went towards rebuilding the Festsaal Kreuzberg club, which was destroyed in a fire earlier this summer. Festsaal Kreuzberg was the original venue booked for this event and had hosted parties in previous years with Theo Parrish and Floating Points, both trustees of the foundation.

The stellar line-up includes DJ sets from Gilles Peterson, Floating Points, Four Tet, and Alex Barck (Jazzanova), and live performances from Horace Tapscott Memorial Ensemble with Dwight Trible, as well as Astral Travel from Italy.  Find out more about the event HERE

Money raised at the event will also go towards helping American jazz saxophonist Arthur Blythe who is struggling with Parkinson’s disease and recently underwent a serious kidney operation.

THE EXPERIENCE OF CREATION WITH THEO PARRISH

TheoParrish_Workshop_changed2.jpg

Musicians helping musicians - that’s what it boils down to. Highly acclaimed Detroit music producer, DJ and Sound Signature label head, Theo Parrish, led a music production workshop for the first time in London to raise money for the Steve Reid Foundation to help musicians in crisis.

Theo and Tony Nwachukwu (CDR, Attica Blues) invited people to track suggestions for the sample palette. Those were then  collected and some used at the ‘Experience of Creation’ workshop.  Tweets contained: @SteveReidFNDN #SRF

Theo Parrish said: “People will have the rare opportunity to witness a process that is usually private and personal. We’ll be ‘sonic strip teasin’ from needle drop to a full-blown idea. Creating will take place in real time and people will be able to interact with me in a space of learning and creativity.”

BROWNSWOOD POP-UP RECORD STORE DAY 16 APRIL 2011

Brownswood-Pop-Up-Record-Shop-Flyer.jpg

Brownswood Recordings set up a special pop-up record shop in conjunction with Record Store Day. An avid record collector himself, Gilles knows all too well the buzz one gets from digging in the crates, so for one day only, the East London venue C.A.M.P got a Brownswood makeover. There were crates of rare soul, jazz, groove, funk, and African records via Gilles favourite UK dealers…. PLUS generously donated finds from celebrity ‘fans’ including Thom Yorke, Erykah Badu, Four Tet, Zane Lowe, Rob Da Bank, Jamie Cullum and more… A fantastic £2000 was raised on the day!
